Visitors to Howth have for many years enjoyed watching seals at the west pier where there is a very well known seal group. Visitors also have the opportunity to do a bit of whale watching – there have been close-quarters sightings of a humpback whale off Ireland’s Eye. This incident was a bit of a surpirse for the sailor who was capsized at the time. The whale swam between his dingy and the rescue boat! Now that’s a good story to tell.
